When we went to Baegunsan, I was looking forward to it because I love going on adventures. When I first stepped out of the bus, I looked around and saw so many beautiful things. The sound of the birds reminded me of Guam’s birds, but the sound was much fuller. The cool breeze from the wind reminded me of when I was on Guam’s beach, and the cool air brushed past me. Guan doesn’t have a lot of different trees, so the smell of new kinds of trees were new but smelled amazing.

We first took off our shoes and socks, and walked on the trail. And the ground that we stepped on was the same with the ground when I used to go barefoot all the time on the streets in Guam. The guide told us that if we walk on this trail barefoot, you can get healthier. I was really excited to go barefoot, while my friends were all complaining because they stepped on sharp rocks. The guide told us that she walks on the trail mostly everyday to guide kinder gardeners. She looked so young, so I guess the mountain makes her look younger.

She gave us a small mirror, but I did not know why we needed it. I always used a mirror to just fix my hair or do makeup, but then she told us to put in under on our chins and bend it forward, back and down. At that moment, I was surprised, because I could see everything around me more clearly and it was just an amazing experience. That was the most wonderful experience. I could see the tall trees, the leaves, and the blue sky. I could see everything without the mirror, but with the mirror everything seemed more beautiful.

The guide gave us a loupe which looks like a tiny telescope. I think this one was one of my favorites because using the loupe, if I catch a but, then I can look at it closeup or I can see the inside of a tree trunk. I looked into the trunk of the tree with a magnifying glass, but just looking closely at the tree, there seemed to be something, so it was so cool. When I looked into it, it looked like a squirrel was in it, but it was not, it was just a piece of wood. I also put in on the top of my hand and I could see my wrinkles and weird veins. It was really an amazing tool, and I would like to buy it for myself someday.

After we came back down, we sat down and wrote a report for the essay class. While looking at the beautiful scenery, we wrote about what we did. While writing, I looked around and I could see the beautiful trees and gorgeous sky. I loved the moment of writing and spending time outside, because I love nature. The place where we wrote was so beautiful that I want to camp out there someday. I love everything about the outdoors, except the bus and insects. The teachers passed out some candies and snacks and we were writing and eating. and we got more power from the food. Our teacher gave us candy and snacks and we ate snacks while we were writing. Eating snacks with beautiful nature gave me more energy.

나는 모험을 좋아하기 때문에 백운산에 갔을 때 매우 기대가 되었다. 버스에서 처음 내렸을 때, 고개를 돌려 돌아보니 매우 아름다운 것들이 보였다. 새들의 소리는 마치 나의 고향인 괌에 있는 새들의 소리를 생각나게 했지만, 이곳의 새 소리가 훨씬 풍성했다. 바람에서 불어오는 시원한 바람은 괌의 바닷가에 있을 때를 생각나게 했고, 시원한 공기가 나를 스치고 지나갔다. 괌에는 많은 여러 종류의 나무가 있지 않아서 이곳의 새로운 나무의 향들은 새롭고 신기했다.

우리는 먼저 신발과 양말을 벗었고 맨발로 길을 걸었다. 우리가 밟은 그 땅은 나의 고향 괌에서 내가 맨발로 다니곤 했던 길과 같았다. 해설사님은 우리에게 이 산길을 맨발로 걷는다면 건강해 질 수 있다고 말해주셨다. 나는 건강해 지는 기분에 매우 신이 나서 맨발로 걸었지만 다른 친구들은 뾰족한 바위들 위를 맨발로 걷는다고 불평했다. 해설사님은 유치원생들에게 알려주기 위해 매일 이 거리를 걷는다고 하셨다. 그분은 매우 동안이셨고, 그래서 산이 해설사님을 젊게 만드는 게 아닐까라는 생각을 했다.

그 분은 우리에게 작은 거울을 주셨는데, 나는 평소 머리를 만지거나 화장을 할 때만 거울을 사용하기 때문에 처음엔 왜 이 거울이 필요한지 알지 못했다. 그녀는 우리에게 그 거울을 턱 아래에 놓고 앞으로 구부리고, 좌우로 돌리고, 내려 보라고 하셨다. 그 순간 나는 그렇게 함으로써 모든 것을 더 명확히 둘러볼 수 있어서 매우 놀랐다. 그것은 매우 놀라운 경험이었다. 키가 큰 나무, 나뭇잎, 그리고 하늘까지 모두 볼 수 있었다. 거울이 없어도 볼 수 있는 것들이지만 거울로 볼 때, 거울에 비친 것들이 더 아름답게 보였다.

또 해설사님은 작은 망원경 같은 돋보기를 우리에게 주셨다. 돋보기를 사용하여 벌레를 잡으면 벌레를 가까이에서 볼 수 있거나, 나무 몸통의 안까지 볼 수 있었기 때문에 가장 좋았다. 나는 돋보기로 나무의 줄기를 들여다 봤는데, 그냥 보기에는 아무것도 없는 것 같은 나무를 자세히 보니 뭔가 있는 것 같아서 너무 멋있었다. 나무의 몸통을 봤을 때는, 다람쥐와 같은 것이 안에 있어 보였는데 돋보기로 보니 그것은 그냥 나무 조각이었다. 또한 돋보기를 내 손에 놓고 내 손에 있는 주름과 (평소에는 몰랐지만 자세히 보니) 이상해 보이는 혈관도 볼 수 있었다. 돋보기는 정말 놀라운 도구인 것 같아서 언젠가는 나도 꼭 사고 싶다.

아래로 내려온 뒤에 우리는 논술 보고서를 위해 앉아서 글을 썼다. 아름다운 풍경을 바라보면서 그날 한 것에 대해 글을 썼다. 글을 쓰면서 나는 주위를 다시 돌아보았고 아름다운 나무들과 아주 멋진 하늘을 볼 수 있었다. 나는 자연을 사랑하기 때문에 밖에서 시간을 보내며 글을 쓰는 그 순간이 아주 좋았다. 우리가 글을 쓴 그곳은 너무 아름다웠기 때문에 언젠간 그곳에서 야영해 보고 싶다. 나는 벌레와 곤충을 빼고는 밖에 있는 모든 것을 사랑한다. 선생님께서는 사탕과 과자를 나눠주셨고 우리는 글을 쓰며 간식을 먹었다. 아름다운 자연과 함께 간식을 먹어 더 많은 힘이 났다.
